The weather kept fine through the week runnnig up to the show and a team of club members set up 50 show vats ready for our exhibitors. Benching took place on Friday 25th September when 415 koi were benched, many exhibitors benched their koi early using the Koi Show Pro software which speeded up the benching.
Judging took place on Saturday by our International Team of Judges who split up into teams to undertake the task.
Again this year the standard of koi entered was very high and many excellent koi received no award due to the high level of competition (see the list of major results below).
One award, worth a special mention, was that Mick Preston, our Show Chairman, won ‘Best in Size 4’ (There were 84 koi entered in this size) with a Kohaku he spawned in June 2013.
Judges’ Merit Awards
Four years ago when Andy Baker was The All England Koi Show Chairman a special award was created to be presented to a koi of quality or special interest that the judges believed would have qualified for an award were it not for the quality of the competition on the day.
Although trophies were bought in readiness back then none had been awarded until this year, when 3 koi received this accolade (2 Kohakus and a fine example of a Karashigoi). One of these Kohakus has previously won 2 Grand Champion Awards at other shows this year.
